Snow Camp Town Hall Meeting and Listening Session tonight to discuss concerns about heavy industry and future development.

Snow Camp, Alamance County… Tonight members of the Snow Camp community will gather at the Sylvan School Gymnasium for a Town Hall Discussion and Listening Session. With the support of an anonymous donor to the event sponsor, Snow Camp Community Action Network (SnowCampCAN), a postcard invitation (attached front & back) was sent to all 2800 addresses in the community. The event will start at 6:30 with a potluck. The community meeting and listening session will be from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. The event will be held 7718 Sylvan School Road, Snow Camp 27349.

Topics will include but are not limited to:

· A brief presentation of a draft plan for rural preservation.

· An update to proposed amendments to the Heavy industrial Use Ordinance (HIDO)

· Concerns about the Alamance Aggregate mining operation and permit application.

This meeting and listening session follow a letter (attached) from a group of community members calling on the Alamance County Board of Commissioners to deny an operating permit to the Alamance Aggregates Quarry. The quarry started construction blasting in October 2021, and then commenced operating without a permit and in constant violation of the noise ordinance, with rock grinding operations outside of business hours, and hundreds of trucks tearing up the roads and driving erratically. Multiple complaints submitted to the Alamance County Planning Director, Tonya Caddle have gone unanswered, and the mine has operated without a permit, selling gravel and observed by citizen watchdogs delivering hundreds of truckloads to the new Toyota mega site in Liberty. Every County Commissioner was invited and we are hopeful they will attend to support their constituents, hear concerns, and answer questions from the community.
